About Stable Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion

Stable Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion is the breaking down of organic matter by microorganisms into carbon dioxide, methane, water and some organic material or digestate. Many of these microorganisms, bacteria and archaea, are intolerant of oxygen and so as a result the process is labelled anaerobic.

The bio-gas products of the process can be used to burn for heat or power electrical generators, while water can be returned to the water course and finally the organic matter or digestate can be used as an organic fertiliser.
